The latest report on how the Democrats are gonna fix health insurance notably doesn't mention mandated coverage of pre-existing conditions for Americans over the age of 18.
If not forced to do so, private insurance companies will not cover adults with chronic illnesses or a less-than-spotless history. The list of non-covered pre-existing conditions will continue to expand.
Look, ditching the provision that requires insurance to cover pre-existing coverage negates the whole "reform." At this point Congress is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic as she goes down.
Pray you can keep your employer-based coverage and avoid ANY symptom, illness or injury until you turn 65 and qualify for Medicare. And I mean ANY. Here's a
2009 story from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune chronicling health-insurance denials. Excerpt: In Minnesota, the most common reasons for denial are obesity, mental health conditions, hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. But there are less well-known reasons insurers consider on a case-by-case basis: chemical dependency, allergies that require costly injectable drugs, a previous C-section, previous use of infertility medicine or something as simple as being pregnant.
And here's an article on a woman denied payment for a surgery because she failed to disclose to the insurance company a "pre-existing gynecological condition." What was that condition? Irregular periods.
