The first one noted--that the French are surrender monkeys--always makes me cringe.
France has been making war for generations. Foolish, yes. Fearful, no.
Modern-day example: In the first World War, 4.29 percent of France's population died--1.4 million military deaths and 300,000 civilian casualties.
With its current population of about 300 million, the United States would lose nearly 13 million citizens to war to equate that rate.
Perhaps France hesitates to wage war for a reason. The country has learned the value of diplomacy and compromise the hard way. Besides, these "cowards" fight smart. While France surrendered to Germany early in World War II, the French Resistance--as the cracked.com list notes--is "one of the most enduring symbols of Nazi opposition in Europe."
